What every guide gives you.

Not a science essay. Two pages per activity, laid out the same way every time, so you always know where to look.

  1. 1

    Built for your sport

What this sport actually is, in numbers: how long, how hot, and how much you sweat.

  2. 2

What it does to your body

Four hard figures — ounces lost, milligrams of sodium gone, and how fast it goes.

  3. 3

    Two ways this goes

Red: what is happening now, round by round. Green: what changes when it goes back in.

  4. 4

    Your protocol

Before, during and after — with one column marked START HERE so you know where to begin.

  5. 5

    The timeline

Wake-up to bed. Five marks, each with what to drink and how much.

  6. 6

    What to actually take

Electrolyte targets per hour, plus fuel, creatine, caffeine and collagen. Not ours. Just what works.

The part nobody tells you

Two ways this goes.

Every sport shows you both — what is happening now, and what changes when the sodium goes back in on time.

Under-hydratedWhat is happening now

0–15 min

  • Core temperature climbs fast
  • Sweat rate hits 32–64 oz an hour
  • You feel fine, so you do not drink

15–30 min

  • Potassium in the muscle drops
  • Heart rate drifts up
  • Focus fades as sodium drops

30–60 min

  • Cramps: low magnesium and potassium
  • Strength down 10–15% on the bar
  • The last rounds feel like the first
HydratedWhat changes when it goes back in

In the session

  • Full strength through the whole session
  • No mid-session cramp
  • Focus holds in the last rounds

7 days – 2 weeks

  • The afternoon headache stops
  • Night cramps gone
  • Sleep gets deeper

1–3 months

  • Recovery takes one day, not two
  • Same numbers in round five
  • Training volume goes up

Example shown: CrossFit. Every one of the 46 gets its own.

Questions

How do I get it?

The moment your order is paid we email you a download link. It normally lands within a minute — check your spam folder if it does not. You can also get your copy any time at engineerednutrition.us/pages/get-my-playbook using your order number and email.

I lost my email — how do I get my copy?

Go to engineerednutrition.us/pages/get-my-playbook, enter your order number and the email you used, and we will take you straight to your copy. Links never expire on our side; we can always reissue one.

Is anything shipped to me?

No. This is a digital product. Nothing physical ships and you are not charged shipping.

Can I print it?

Yes, it is built to be printed. Most people print their own sport's two pages and keep the rest on their phone.

Why does it have my name on it?

Every copy is personalised to the person who bought it. That is what keeps it from being passed around, and it is why we can make it this detailed at this price.

Can I share it with a friend?

Your licence covers you. If someone else wants it, send them the link so they get their own copy, personalised to them. You cannot post it publicly, resell it, or use it commercially with a team, gym or coaching clients.

Do I have to use your product?

No. The protocols are written around electrolyte targets, not around us. One of our sticks sits inside those numbers, but the book works whatever you use — and it tells you when the answer is water, food or sleep.

Can I get a refund?

Because the file is delivered instantly and personalised to you, all sales are final. If your link does not work, reply to your order email and we will sort it out the same day.

Common questions about hydration by sport

The short answers. The Playbook gives the full protocol for each of the 46 activities.

How much water and electrolytes do I actually need for my sport?

It depends on how much you sweat and for how long. As a working range, hard training costs 500–700 mg of sodium, 150–300 mg of potassium and 30–60 mg of magnesium per hour, with 16–24 oz of fluid. A CrossFit WOD runs 32–64 oz of sweat an hour; football in pads in August can hit the same per hour but for three hours; a desk day costs almost nothing until the afternoon. The Playbook gives the measured cost and an exact before/during/after protocol for each of 46 activities, so you are not guessing from a general rule.

Which sports and activities does The Hydration Playbook cover?

Forty-six, in six sections. The gym and the floor: CrossFit, HYROX, group fitness, powerlifting, bodybuilding, Olympic weightlifting, strongman, calisthenics. Endurance: running, marathon, ultra and trail, road cycling, mountain biking, triathlon, swimming, rowing, Spartan and OCR, DEKA. Field and court: soccer, football, basketball, baseball and softball, lacrosse, hockey, rugby, volleyball, tennis, pickleball, golf. Mat and ring: boxing and MMA, jiu-jitsu and wrestling, hot yoga and pilates, dance. Outdoors: hiking, skiing, surfing, climbing, hunting and fishing. Work, heat and everyday: trades and job sites, military and first responders, the desk and the 3 pm dip, travel and flights, sauna and cold plunge, the night out, youth sports and masters athletes.

How many electrolyte sticks do I need for a marathon?

One before the race with breakfast, one per hour on the course, and one with the first bottle after you finish — five to six for most runners over a full marathon. The reason is the sodium bill: a marathon can cost over 3,000 mg of sodium, and water alone past mile 14 dilutes what is left, which is what the wall usually is. The Playbook has the full mile-by-mile version, plus the carbohydrate timing that goes with it.

Is this only useful if I buy Engineered Nutrition products?

No. Every protocol states the target in milligrams and ounces, so you can hit it with any electrolyte that carries a real sodium dose. One EN stick in 16 oz supplies 600 mg sodium, 188 mg potassium and 34 mg magnesium, which is named as one way to hit the first column. The guide also covers carbohydrate, gels, protein, creatine, caffeine, collagen and magnesium — most of which Engineered Nutrition does not sell.

Does it cover everyday hydration, or only training?

Both. Six of the 46 sections are non-training: the desk and the 3 pm dip, travel and flights, sauna and cold plunge, the night out and the morning after, trades and job sites, and military and first-responder shifts. Most of the water you lose leaves on ordinary days, so those pages use daily targets — roughly 1,500–2,300 mg of sodium a day, mostly from food — rather than per-hour training targets.

Where do the numbers in the guide come from?

Fluid and sodium ranges come from the ACSM and NATA position stands on fluid replacement and from published sweat-composition research (Maughan and Shirreffs, 2008; Baker, 2017). Sources are listed at the back of the book. Individual sweat rate and sodium concentration vary widely, so the guide teaches three self-tests — the scale test, the salt-mark test and the urine-colour test — for finding your own numbers rather than relying on an average.

What do I get, and how is it delivered?

A 111-page PDF: a 14-page chapter on what your body loses and why, then two pages for each of the 46 activities, plus a mixing guide, a 7-day tracker and the source list. It is a digital download — nothing ships. It is also included free with any Engineered Nutrition Starter Kit.

Will electrolytes stop my cramps?

Not always, and the guide is direct about that. A cramp in the first ten minutes is usually a warm-up or pacing problem. A cramp that turns up past minute 40, in the heat, in the same muscle every time, is the pattern that tends to track minerals. Each sport page lists the specific signs for that activity so you can tell the difference. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA; this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
